Musician Haniya Aslam of Zeb-Haniya Passes Away, Leaves Legacy Behind

Musician Haniya Aslam, known as one-half of the duo Zeb-Haniya, passed away on Sunday, August 11. The news of her passing was confirmed by her cousin and musical partner, Zeb Bangash, through an Instagram post.

Haniya reportedly died of a cardiac arrest. Together, the cousins created enchanting music, particularly on Coke Studio, where their song ‘Chal Diye’ became a hit.

On Monday morning, Zeb shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, posting a series of photos with the caption, “Hanini ✨♥️.”

Many artists and social media users expressed their condolences in the comments. 

Cricketer Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi commented, “Aas wohi dil mai leye, iss aarzoo mai hum jiyen, tera haath thaam k, lo ham bhi chal diye… Rest in peace.”

Anchor Dino Ali wrote, “Inna lillahe wa inna ilaehe raje’oon – she was always so sweet and a brilliant talent – im so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah Pak gives you and the family sabr during this difficult time – Allah Pak Janat ul firdous main jaga dain Ameen”.

RJ Sophiya Anjam posted, “My dearest Zeb, I am so, so sorry. Haniya was a brilliant artist, a warm soul & loved/respected by many. She has left memories for us all to cherish. I cannot even imagine the pain of her loved ones in this terribly difficult time, can only make dua that may Allah make it easy. Sending you love & deepest condolences. Her music & spirit shall always be celebrated.”

Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire wrote, “WTF … what happend ? OMG.”

He also shared a post on his Instagram Story and wrote, “This is not fair god… this sweet girl my dearest Haniya is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest. Haniya and I had a special bond. She was a musician par excellence and the purest soul I have met. Rest In peace Haniya.”

Haniya Aslam was born in Karachi and pursued her education in the USA and UK. She later completed a diploma in Audio Engineering in Canada. In a 2020 interview with Youlin Magazine, she reflected on her musical journey, saying, “I’m not sure if I started pursuing music or music started pursuing me!”
