Huawei Unveils World’s First Triple-Folding Phone, Priced at Over Three Times the New iPhone

Huawei has introduced the world’s first triple-folding smartphone, the Mate XT, at a launch event in Shenzhen on Tuesday. The device, priced at a staggering $2,800, costs more than three times the recently announced iPhone 16.

Huawei executive Richard Yu officially unveiled the Mate XT during the keynote presentation, revealing that more than three million people had already registered interest in the phone before its launch. Marketed as a premium device for a niche audience, the phone is set to hit shelves on September 20.

Sporting a sleek red and gold design, the Mate XT can transform into a 10.2-inch (26 cm) tablet and weighs 298 grams (10.5 ounces). “This is the world’s first triple-folding phone,” Yu announced, emphasizing the company’s extensive efforts to resolve challenges related to mass production and product reliability.

The release of the Mate XT comes just a day after Apple revealed its iPhone 16, a device built with generative artificial intelligence, highlighting the fierce competition between the tech giants as they race to innovate and attract buyers.
