Malala Yousafzai Vows to Support Pakistan’s Entertainment Industry at Documentary Premiere

Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, who recently ventured into film production with the Apple TV+ documentary The Last of the Sea Women, has expressed her commitment to supporting Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Speaking at the premiere of her debut production at the Toronto Film Festival, Yousafzai highlighted the immense talent in Pakistan and pledged to continue backing the country’s artists.

“I’ve supported a Pakistani film in the past and I will continue to support all Pakistani artists whenever I get an opportunity,” she said. Yousafzai previously served as an executive producer for Saim Sadiq’s critically acclaimed Joyland.

Encouraging others to rally behind the entertainment industry, she added, “We all should support Pakistan’s entertainment industry. We have such amazing talent, whether it’s actors, directors, or even as an audience by watching local shows. In all these ways, we can help our industry grow.”

Yousafzai’s documentary The Last of the Sea Women tells the story of the haenyeo community, a group of women who sustain themselves through traditional free-diving and fishing off South Korea’s Jeju Island. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ starting October 11.

Malala’s passion for storytelling and dedication to promoting Pakistani talent marks her growing influence in the global entertainment industry.
