Adnan Siddiqui Criticizes Bollywood’s Remake of Reshma’s Classic Song ‘Akhiyaan De Kol’
Pakistani actor and host Adnan Siddiqui has voiced his displeasure with Bollywood’s revamped version of the late legendary singer Reshma’s iconic song “Akhiyaan De Kol,” which will be featured in Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film Do Patti. Like many others, Siddiqui urged filmmakers to respect the legacy of musical greats and avoid distorting timeless classics.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Siddiqui shared his strong opinion alongside a poster of Sanon’s item song, stating, “Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend.”
He further added, “Please show some respect for Reshma jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff.”
The Tamasha host’s remarks come as the new rendition of “Akhiyaan De Kol,” sung by Shilpa Rao, has faced backlash from fans of Reshma, who have expressed disappointment with the modern version. Many social media users echoed Siddiqui’s sentiments, criticizing the new take on the beloved song.
One fan reacted by commenting, “Seriously!! Ruined one of the best songs,” while another noted, “Reshma ji would have never thought of such portrayal of her song.”
Do Patti, which is Kriti Sanon’s maiden production, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 25. The film, which co-stars Sanon, Kajol, and Shaheer Sheikh, has been generating buzz, but the release of this song has sparked debate over how classic music should be treated in modern adaptations.
Adnan Siddiqui’s call for respecting Reshma’s musical legacy has resonated with many, highlighting the importance of preserving the integrity of cultural treasures in the entertainment industry.
