Shahid Kapoor Opens Up About His Desire to Work in South Indian Films, but Reveals Lingering Fear

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor recently expressed his interest in expanding his filmography across all languages but revealed a significant hesitation when it comes to South Indian cinema. As Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films continue to dominate the box office and attract Bollywood stars, Kapoor remains one of the few A-list actors yet to venture into South Indian projects.

During a recent awards night, Kapoor candidly spoke about his concerns. “I want to work in all languages, but what if people don’t understand what I say? That’s always the fear,” the actor admitted. He further elaborated on the challenges, saying, “To me, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada are all the same because I don’t know any of them. So if any director can trust me with that, I’d love to work in the South.”

With Bollywood stars such as Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Saif Ali Khan, and Disha Patani recently making waves in pan-Indian films, fans have been eagerly awaiting Kapoor’s debut in South Indian cinema.

Despite his reservations, Kapoor has been busy on the Bollywood front. His last appearance was in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, a sci-fi rom-com directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, where he starred alongside Kriti Sanon.

Looking ahead, Kapoor has an action-thriller Deva, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, lined up, where he will share the screen with Pooja Hegde, Kubbra Sait, and Pavail Gulati. Additionally, he is set to collaborate with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj once again, starring opposite rising star Triptii Dimri in an upcoming project.

While Kapoor’s fear of linguistic barriers holds him back from South Indian films, his fans remain hopeful that he will eventually make the leap and join the growing list of Bollywood stars embracing pan-Indian cinema.
