My Solo Tracks Are Short Stories Waiting to Be Told”: Bilal Ali on His New Single Dil

Bilal Ali, the lead vocalist of the popular Pakistani band Kashmir, has recently made a solo comeback with his new single “Dil.” This electronic track marks a significant departure from the alternative rock sound that fans have come to know him for. In an interview with The Express Tribune, Bilal shared the inspiration behind his latest release.

“Actually, this song just came to me,” he explained. “With Kashmir, our songs often reflect collective experiences or societal issues, but as Bilal Ali, I delve into personal emotions and feelings.”

Demonstrating his commitment to versatility, Bilal expressed his desire not to be confined to a single sound. “People can get confused by new styles, but for an artist, it’s about melody and lyrics first,” he said. “I’ve never limited myself; I believe we’re all evolving.”

“Dil” started off as an acoustic piece two years ago. Bilal described how he produced it himself, setting it aside for over a year to let it “marinate.” He eventually shared the track with Waleed Ahmed from Janoobi Khargosh, who loved it and collaborated with him on the final product.

Looking ahead, Bilal mentioned receiving requests for solo concerts but emphasized the importance of releasing a full album first. “Once I compile about 10-12 songs, I’ll feel ready for a solo concert,” he said.

Reflecting on his experience with Kashmir, he noted the excitement and nerves that come with concert season. “It’s always daunting at first, but it pays off when the performance connects with the audience.”

Bilal also addressed the common question of how he differentiates his solo work from his contributions to Kashmir. “It’s the same person writing these songs,” he clarified. “I write from the chords and feelings I have in the moment, regardless of whether it’s with Kashmir or as a solo artist.”

He believes that authenticity is key. “As a writer and composer, I’m being honest with myself. That’s what matters,” he stated firmly.

Bilal describes his music as “short stories from my life,” emphasizing the importance of narrative in his songwriting. “Sometimes it takes time to process experiences, and that reflection shapes my writing.”

Accompanying the single is a serene music video that beautifully captures the song’s essence. The visuals reflect a distant love, enhancing the poignant lyrics and emotive melody. “Dil” promises to resonate with listeners, enveloping them in a warmth that speaks to deep-seated devotion.
