Ushna Shah Reveals Rare Disorder: Prosopagnosia, Also Known as ‘Face Blindness’

Popular Pakistani actress Ushna Shah has left her fans in shock with the revelation that she suffers from a rare neurological condition called prosopagnosia, commonly known as face blindness.

Taking to her Instagram stories this week, the star disclosed that she often struggles to recognize people’s faces, even those she has met before. This revelation has provided insight into the daily challenges she faces due to this condition.

“I’d like to take a moment to share some insight into a condition known as prosopagnosia, or face blindness, which affects a person’s ability to recognize faces,” Shah wrote. “Over time this condition has become more prominent for me and I often do not immediately recognize individuals, even in familiar settings.”

The actress explained that what once seemed like an amusing quirk has turned into a frustrating challenge over the years. She urged her fans and colleagues to be understanding during interactions where she may not immediately recognize them. “If there’s ever an interaction where I don’t recognize you, please understand that it’s due to this condition, not a lack of recognition or care.”

Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder that affects the brain’s ability to process facial recognition. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), it can make it difficult for individuals to recognize even close family members or friends. While there is no specific cure, people with prosopagnosia can learn to use other cues, like voices, to identify those around them.

Shah’s openness about her condition has resonated with many of her followers, sparking conversations around this often misunderstood disorder.
